Crazy Horse Community Development Corporation

Who We Are

The Crazy Horse Community Development Corporation (CHCDC) is a community-driven, action-focused organization located in the heart of the Wounded Knee District, in the Crazy Horse Community. We exist to create lasting opportunities for our people—opportunities that strengthen our economy, prepare our workforce, and build sustainable businesses that will serve generations to come.

We are guided by a Board of Directors with decades of proven leadership experience in education, business, law, healthcare, economic development and organizational development. Together, we work to turn vision into reality, ensuring that progress is not just promised, but delivered.

Our Mission

At the Crazy Horse Community Development Corporation, we believe in the power of self-determination. We are not a handout organization—we are a “put your foot forward first” organization. When our community members take the first step, we stand beside them with the tools, guidance, and opportunities they need to succeed.

We walk in the footsteps of our ancestors, carrying forward their dreams and visions for a thriving, self-sustaining nation. Their resilience is our foundation, their hope is our guide, and their legacy is our mission.

What We Do

 Economic Development

  • Create sustainable, long-term opportunities for the community

  • Attract investment that directly benefits the local economy

  • Build infrastructure to strengthen commerce and community services

Our economic development efforts are focused on laying the foundation for lasting prosperity. This means pursuing projects that generate consistent income, provide stable employment, and reduce dependency on government resources. By building systems that endure, we ensure that our community’s success is not temporary, but passed down to future generations.

The Need to Break Government Dependency

For too long, our community has been caught in a cycle of government reliance—where survival often depends on federal and tribal programs instead of self-generated income and opportunity. While some programs are necessary, overdependence can limit personal growth, stall innovation, and keep our people from building true independence.

CHCDC is determined to reverse this trend. By fostering private enterprise, providing workforce training, and encouraging community-led solutions, we are giving people the tools to rise above the limitations of government dependency. Our approach is about restoring self-sufficiency, dignity, and generational prosperity.

Workforce Development

  • Job training and skill certification programs

  • Partnerships with trade schools, colleges, and training centers

  • Career readiness and leadership development for youth and adults

We prepare community members for careers in construction, renewable energy, healthcare, technology, tourism, and other high-demand fields.

Sustainable Business Growth

  • Promote environmentally responsible business practices

  • Encourage renewable energy and responsible land use

  • Blend traditional knowledge with modern innovation

Our focus is on long-term viability, ensuring that today’s growth strengthens the community and protects resources for future generations.

Partnerships & Collaboration

We work side-by-side with all the communities within the Wounded Knee District, as well as federal agencies, nonprofits, and private sector partners to secure funding, share expertise, and coordinate efforts that align with our vision. By strengthening connections between our communities and outside resources, we maximize our collective impact and create opportunities that benefit the entire district.

Education

Education is the foundation of opportunity, and CHCDC is dedicated to ensuring every student has access to the tools, skills, and support they need to succeed. We believe that learning should be practical, culturally grounded, and available year-round to meet the needs of our youth.

Our vision includes:

  • Vo-Tech Style Learning – Career-focused education that prepares students for high-demand fields such as construction, renewable energy, technology, healthcare, and skilled trades.

  • Year-Round Educational Services – Tutoring, mentoring, and enrichment programs designed to prevent learning loss and keep students on track.

  • Graduation Success Initiatives – Targeted programs and resources aimed at increasing graduation rates among Native American students by addressing academic, cultural, and personal barriers to completion.

  • Cultural & Lakota Language Enrichment – Programs that preserve and promote Lakota traditions, history, and language, ensuring that students are connected to their heritage while building their future.

By investing in education, CHCDC helps young people build confidence, gain employable skills, honor their cultural identity, and create a future where success is the expectation, not the exception.

Healthcare & Wellness

A healthy community is a strong community. CHCDC is committed to promoting physical well-being and mental health throughout the Wounded Knee District by creating spaces and programs that encourage active, balanced lifestyles.

Our vision includes:

  • Recreation Center – A hub for community gatherings, youth programs, and activities that foster connection, teamwork, and healthy living.

  • Health Gym – Accessible fitness facilities that support physical fitness, rehabilitation, and long-term wellness for people of all ages.

  • Wellness Programs – Initiatives that combine physical activity with mental health awareness, offering workshops, classes, and culturally grounded practices that strengthen the mind and body together.

By investing in wellness, we aim to empower individuals to take control of their health, build resilience, and create a community where vitality and strength are part of everyday life.

Our Vision for the Future

We envision a thriving community where:

  • Families are financially secure through self-determination

  • Youth have career pathways and leadership opportunities

  • Business ventures are sustainable for long-term growth

  • Government dependency is replaced with self-reliance and economic freedom

  • Cultural heritage is honored in every step forward
